CAPTURE OF A COMMANDANT.
. Among the arrivals- by the Kararnea last week was Sergeant Aithur James an', of the Prince of Wale’s Light Horse, who captured the late Commandant Scheept-rs. Yogan was born in England, but has been in the colonies for some yekrs. For several years he was attached to the staff of he ‘‘Auckland Star ” Telling the story of his exploit, Yogan says he rode up to a farmhouse early in the morning, accompanied by an unarmed Cape boy. Several Boers fled as he approached and one who remained told Yogan that Scheepers had' gone the night before. However, Yogan rushed into the house. A voice called from a dark room, “ It’s all right. lam here.” Yogan went in, tcre the blind fiom the window, and found Scheepers lying on the bed, very ill. He said, “ Don’t disturb me ! lam very sick. I want the ambulance.’ - Yogan went outside and called up the Hussars. Sergeant Yogan was recommended for the D.S.M., but received neither this distinction nor the L 250 that was offered for the capture of the Boer commandant.
