The .expectation, thot the yield of gold in New Zealand for the t.yelve. months, which ended on Tuesday last would be the largest for many years, has been rea'.seu, During 1901 more gold was won than in any year since 1871, the export returns showing a total of 455, 5590 z, of the value of £1,753,783-an increase of 83,5660 z, valued at £320, .830, as compared with 1906. The yield in 1871 was 730,0290 z. valued at £2,787,520, the greater part . of which was produced by the Thames, then at the height of its prosperity. During the past 45 3 T ears the colony has unearthe 11 5,064,4600 z gold valued at £59,159.883. The returns of gold for last month totalled 45,2360 z, of the value of £173,900, or over 11, OOOoz more than in December of the previous year. The yields of the sev&ral districts were : —Auckland, 23,4480 z, £86,463 ; Greymouth, 10,8140 z, £43,256 ; Dunedin, 8,1620 z, £32,645: Nelson, 14620 z, £6136; Itivercargill, 13500 z £5400. The export of silver last month was 85,805 oz, valued at £10,225, as against 32,7320 z, of the value of £3835, in December of the previous year.
