The subject of the next of the educational pamphlets issued by the Public Health Department shortly will be diphtheria. The overdraft of the Masterton Borough Council, after allowing for substantial credits on the library and loans to local bodies accounts is L 2716 Bs. The trouble as to the building of a stone church for St Matthew's parish, Auckland, has come to a satisfactory conclusion. The trustees and the building committee have met and come to an agreement, under which a tender is to be accepted at L 24,334, with a provision for compleling the tower if it is found that funds are available during the course of the contract. The contractors will begin work" at once. It is anticipated there will be sufficient funds available to finish the tower without the spire.
