SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Committee was held last night. Present Messrs Moffatt Boyce, McGlashen, Knapp and Bartlett. Minutes of previous meeting read and adopted.
Accounts presented were passed for payment.
The Chairman reported that after providing for cheques just passed the Committee had a credit balance of 2s 7a, against which there was a debit from the Board lor goods supplied.. A letter from the Education Board was read, with reference to the renewed application for a grant for filling in the hollow at the rear of the teacher's residence. The Secretary stated the matter was held over until a reply was received from the Motueka Borough Council. The Chairman mentioned that he had seen certain members of the Board and explained the position ; also that Messrs Baigent, Best,, and Beuke had promised to inspect the property. Mr Boyce moved,, and Mr Bartlett seconded, that another application be made to the Board for the grant of to do the work. Carried,
The question of holding a school treat prior to breaking up for the Christmas holidays, was discussed at length, and it was eventually resolved that Mr Malcolm be asked by the Chairman if he knows of any fund collected for the purpose of holding school treats ; also, who owned the charts on human anatomy which were on the school walls during his regime. On the motion of Mr Boyce, seconded by Mr Knapp, it was resolved that for the Christmas holidays, the schools close on the 20th December and re-open on the 6th of .January. Mr Knapp proposed and Mr Bartlett seconded, That Mr H. Langford be thanked for the very satisfactory Jmanner in which he has conducted the school during his term as temporary head-master, and f)r remaining in the position beyond the t me agreed upon; also, that the. Chairman prepare a testimonial, to be signed by the Committee, to be presented to Mr Langlord before he leaves.
Mr Boyce proposed and Mr Bartlett seconded, That an effort be made to organise a school treat for the Ist of January and that the opportunity be taken advantage of to welcome the new head-master, Mr Harris ; that the matter of finance be left to the teachers, and that application be made to Mr Hursthouse for-the use of his grounds. The meeting then concluded.
