The half-mile amateur championship of Australia was decided at Brisbane last Saturday -week. It resulted as follows : —P. Davis, Queensland, 1 ; Turnbull, New South Wales, 2 ; Dowd, Queensland. S.. That part of the country lying between Middlemarch and Nenthorn has experienced a large mortality in ewes and lambs, but upon the Sti-ath-Taieri Plain itself the condition is not so bad.

Sydney Bulletin says that the labour unions of New-South Wales are booked for a period of prosperity—provided they don't lose their heads.
