Same striking articles have appeared in the Melbourne Argus recently on the withdrawal of capital from "Vic - toria. Over three millions-, of moiiejv have been recalled from two firms of agents during the past two years. How far this is due to the special taxation of capital, and how far to further taxation of the kind it is hard to say, but there seems to be no doubt about the fact, and it is a very significent one—especially to the wage earner. The extraordinary thing is (says the Pastor - alists' Review)that this withdrawal of the money that finds him work and pays his wage is made a matter of rejoicing by the Labour Party. Under the title of -'Chasing Capital out," The Worker has a triumphant article upon the subject beginning thus : —-"One of the brightest features of the New Zealand regime is the news that the big mortgage companies are packing up and clearing out." ',The New Zealand Land Mortgage Company has already withdrawn all its capital, the New Zealand Trust and Loan Company, the North British and New Zealand Investment Company, and the New Zealand Mortgage and Investment Company are also packing up to depart." We have heard of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs, but the man, who did that, had at least the satisfaction of eating the goose, whilst the goose in this case flies awaycarrying the golden eggs with him, i and the man isleft supperless.
