A meeting of butter sellers was held in Sydney recently to consider the question of altering the present system of fixing the value of butter. A motion in favour of selling butter by the hundredweight in lieu of the pound system, as at present, was discussed, It was ultimately decided to adjourn the meeting in order to obtain an expression of opinion from leading butte,sellers in the other States, with the view of combined action being taken.
Here is a letter from a lad at Sandhurst, wbo has had over ,£IOOO spent on his education at a leading public school :—"Dear Mother, plucked again but I dont mean to fale next time. This time it was all threw the spelling. —Your very affectionate son. —."
One oblging male applicant for a position under the Taranaki Education Board wrote against his "state," in the application form the following words: Single, but prepared to marry, if married man required."
Mr Guinness asked last evening whether the increase of salary granted t > Captain Post, of Tutanekai (L 5 on a L 350 salary), was not. very small for many years of faithful service. , The Minister for Marine agreed that the amount was small, and said that the mattei was under consideration. Mr Laurenson on Mr Pirani—"lf I hindered the House as much as the member for Palmerston I should be ashamed to rise and speak." Mr Pirani on Mr B vurenson—"lf hon. members talked such nonsense on the .Estimates as ha al.es we should never geCdone at all".
