THE LICENSING BILL.
Members cf the House are calmly ignoring Mr Seddon's appeal there should he no amendments proposed to his Licensing Bill. Further new clauses were given notice of yesterday. MiTanner intends to propose amendments restricting the employment cf barmaids and preventing the extinguishing of licenses at one point in a district and the reviving of them at another. Mr G. J. Smith wants the parliamentary vote in regard to the sale of liquor m Bellamy's to ho recorded in "Hansara" in the same manner as any division of the House, and has a clause on hand to this effect. He also has one dealing with packet licenses, and another by which it shall be provided that bars shall be shops within the meaning of the Shops and Shop Assistonts Act. Mr Meidith proposes to incorporate in the New Zealand law an extract frcm the English Intcxicating Liquor Act, 1872 (clause 25), so as to provide that any person net an inmate; servant, or lodger, who is found on licensed premises during closing hcurs, or who falsely represents himself as a traveller in order to obtain liquor during closing hours, shall be liable to a penalty. Mr Collins has given notice of certain amendments, but he is not sure that he will proceed with them.

A NEW IMPORTATION. Messrs. Cook Brothers, of Riwaka, have imported the well-bred Clydesdale horse, Pride of Roseneath, which they have purchased frcm Mr R. Clark, Tinwald, Canterbury, a well known breeder, who has carried off first and second prizes at most shows in the South Island. Pride of Roseneath is 3 years old, i6f hands high, .of splendid color, well marked, and was landed in Nelson without a scratch. He has been much admired by all who have seen him, and should be a great acquisition to the district. Messrs Cook intend placing the horse at the disposal of breeders in Riwaka this season.—Advt.
