MOTUEKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Committee was held on Tuesday evening. Present, Messrs Mtffatt (chairman), Boyee, ELrapp, McG.lasl.an, Wratt, BLursthcuse and Bartlett. Minutes of previous meeting read and cor firmed. Accounts amounting to ,£'23 10s were passed for payment ; with reference to Mr F. Batchelor's account for freight etc., it was resolved that it be referred back for particulars. Correspondence frcm the Education Board was read. Dealing with the committee's application for a grant for straightening water course etc., at the teacher's, residence, the Beard stated that the request would be considered till next meeting; the application for a picket fence was declined; the tender cf Mr C. <J. Baitlett had been accepted for repairs to teacher's 1 esidence, and that Mr Tarrant had been appointed supervisor. A complaint from a parent as to the refusal of a teacher- to allow her child to leave the school for- ceitain purposes, was, on the motion of Mr Hursthcuse, seconded by Mr "Wratt, referred to the teacher for explamation. The chairman reported the credit balance at the bank to-be .£37 13s lOd against which there were outstanding cheques to be paid. Mr Wratt proposed, that the repairs to the kitchen floor and other extras be done by the cenrtactor, Mr Bartlett, at a price to be arranged by h:*m and tie supervisor. Mr Tarrant, upon receipt of authority frcm the Board, and tlat Mr Ellis' letter to the Ccmmittee he 1 arded ever to the supervisor. The sketch plans of the new High School have I een fciwarded by Mr Ellis and Mr Moffat, Clair man of the school c< rrm:ttee,and submitted by him to members, who express themselves well satisfied with the design which is an excellent ore, of substantial and :'mptsirg appearance, having a fine frcnt to the north. The buildio gto l:e erected is to be a continuation cf tie nt w detached school, and the dimensions aie 30ft x 24ft exclusive of tie lat and clcak room. Tie entrance will he plated contiguous to tlat of tie otl er school, the frcnt porticoV.f which is to undergo alterations to allow of the entrance being on the north side ; at piesent it is to the east. A fine square and massive locking belltower adds greatly to the appearance of the proposed building. Altogether, Mr Ellis, the architect, is to he congratulated upon his plans, and his action in meeting with the views of the Ccmmittee is appreciated.
