There is a general cry for rain from farmers (says, the Omaru Mail) in North Otago at present. If long delayed, the prospects for the harvest will be almost a negligeable quantity. The want of water has made itself generally felt throughout the South Island. Thus we read that a bath is an almost unheard of luxury in Dunedin at the present time, wsen the reservoir is all but drained. Many farmers in the d strict have delayed sowing oats and other late crops owing to the dryness of the ground. The settlers of the Maerewhenua Settlement in particular are crying out for water. The kissing of the King by each Peer at the Coronation is one of the " services "to be abolished: William VI wished to get rid of this ceremonial in 1831. but ultimately he was obliged to submit, and was even kissed by the Arch bishops and Bishops, a part of the affair to which he, had strongly and specially objected^
