OBITUARY.
A very old settler in the person of Joseph Foord Wilson passed away last Saturday morning. The deceased had been a great sufferer for many years, and the end was not unexpected. The late Ala Wilson, who was 71 years of age, came to New Zealand with his parents when ten years old. He was educated at St John's College , Auckland, and after devoting some years t > agricultural and pastoral pur.--u.ts in different parts of the Colony, settled in Motueka, taking possession of the property in Motueka upon the death of his father, some thirty two years ago. He resided on the property till hisdeath took place. Air Wilson held the position of Clerk of the Court for many pears, and acted as Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriage* till failing health rendered rotirement necessary. The deceased was for many years associated with St Thomas' Church as vestrv man and lately filled the position of Church warden. Airs Wilson still survives him : there are two daughters (Airs Jennings of Alotueka and Airs > Rawson of Mastert on), and one son, Air J. F.' Wilson of loverca -gill, who have the sympathy of the public in their bereavement. The funeral which w. s large!s r attended took place on Sunday afternoon, the funeral rites being performed by the Rev. T. Johnston.* At St Thomas' Chuich on Sunday night a memorial service was held, the budding being well filled. The 2>reaeher chose the text from Ecclesiastes Nil, verse 5, and in the course j of lbs remarks referred to the late Air | Wilson as having been a good churchman, always ready to advance the I interests of the cause be had at heart. \ At the c ,nciusion of the sermon, the impressive and solemn music of the Dead Alarch in "Saul," played by the organist, Airs Symes, reverberated mournfully through the sacred edifice. We regret to have to record the death of" Airs Dudley Salisbury of Ngatimoti which occurred on Sunday last at Alotueka. The deceased had been dangerously ill for some weeks and it was at one time thought the critical stage had been passed; however a relapse took place and she passed awav as stated above. The late Airs Salisbury was the eldest daughter of Mr and Airs E. F. Burrell, of Ngatimoti and had been married three years. She was held in high esteem by the settlers in the district. The funeral took place today.
