HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of the Motueka Horticultural Society was held in the ante-room of the Church of England School on Monday, when there was a very good mu-ter of members. The chair was occupied by Mr H. E. Gilbert one of the Vice President, who, after explaining the reason for calling them together, called upon the Secretary, Mr R. W. 11. Rankin to read thejmlance sheet, which had been audited by MrSymes, and showed the society to be in a very satisfactoryfinaneial position, the credit balance in the Bank and on fixed deposit being .£36 16s6d. On the motion of Mr G. Bndden seconded by Mr Wratt, the balance sheet was adopted. Proposed by Mr Wratt, seconded by Mr Thorpe, that the President, Secretary, and Auditor beat-corded a hearty vote of thanks. A similar compliment was likewise paid to the other officers of the society. Ti;e election of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with. Proposed by Mr Wratt. seconded by Mr R. Ruffamaud Caravan were selected as Vice Presidents, upon the motion of Mr 11. Rankin, seconded hv Mr budden. Air A. 1. The chairman referred to the death <f Mr J. F. Wilson, a foi mer President and a member who took an active interest in the Society since its inception. It w,!s resolved that a letter of condolence be sent to Airs Wilson. Considerable discussion took place on the resolution passed at the last special meeting re site for not show, and it was eventualiv agreed that the same be rescinded.- IMr Drummond pnposed and AlrG. Human seconded, that the show, be held in Air Tarrant's section in High Street. A o amendment proposed by Air Fry and seconded by Air Alanov, in favor of holding the show on the cricket
ground was defeated, and the motion carried. A sub-committee, consisting of the President, Secretary, F. Huffam and Wratt was appointed to confer with Air Tarrant re lease, select the site and make arrangements for the removal of iron shed; to report in a fortnight. The date of the Spring Show was fixed for the 20th November. Several additions were made to the schedule which was finally adopted, The judges who acted last year were reappointed, with the exception of those for flowers, that being left open, to be nominated later on. The Committee adjourned for a fortnight.
