IMPORTANT OPERATION.

An important operation, the first of the kind carried out in New Zealand, was performed in Mastertori lately by Mr Brand, the a Goverrmrent "Veterinarian, upon a racehorse belonging to MrAlexander Reside. The horse was known as a bad " roarer." Mr Brand had a silver tube made to order in Christchurch, upon receipt of which he opened the horse's neck, severed the windpipe, and inserted the tube. The whole operation took less than a quarter of an hour from the time the horse was thrown. Mr Brand is confident that the effect of the operation will stop the " roaring." He has known horses upon which he has performed similar operations in the Old Country to subsequently win important racing events.
