CORRESPONDENCE.

TO THE EDITOR Sir:— I am glad to seethe ratepayers waking up. There is too much of the “ Butcher and the baker and the candlestick maf-er and the cove wot bilked about his pa. and his ma” on the Borough Council. The Mayor ought to do liis duty and stop* some of the goings on. T!ie Works Committee is a beautiful lot. The place was made a Borrugh because of the bad roadmaking of the County Council. The engineer of that time is now chairman of the Works Committee so I am told. I 1 wh; i are we better off - ? The stone-

breaker is a pet. I should like to know how many hundred pounds it has swallowed up, I believe the machine is alright in its way but as one Cr said last meeting the Council are muddlers. I agree that the "High St crowd want watching, especially Cr Moffatt, who appears to be in full charge. Cr Ryder knows how to look after his own interests and is always talking about “cracked metal ”. However, I do agree with both of them that Mr Brouhgam should 1 ave the stie; t water taken away from his premises even if it is on High St again. Why was .£lO spent on the culvert across Katene’s road if the Borough is not to drain water away ? I am, etc. Bye Hoad.
