LETTER OF TE WHEROWHERO RESPECTING LANDS AT KAWHIA.

Kawhia, July 7 1856. Friend, Mr. McLean —I will inform you,—that is, the Governor and yourself, what blocks of land are free from contending claims; namely, the lands having an undisputed title, which we are now desirous of selling to you- Lei those lands which are disputed be excluded; let tlieui be settled by the surveyor. Commencing at Pohonui, the boundary runs to Whatiliri-kapapa, thence to Marutaha, to Parori, Waipara, Huha, Wharawharanui, Te Rete, Pakarikari, Helai, Hawaiki, Te Okiokinga, Tokitangohia, Pukekowhai, Kohemaru, Opohoi, Waitete, Tahurikotua; thence to Orako, Tikowiwi, Mataora, Te Koruiti. and meeting again at Wharawharanui. These are the lands which are free from conflicting claims. We, therefore, request that you will give us the payment for these lands. Kihirini Kanawa. _ „ Poiatau Wherowhero. To Mr. McLean.
