It is our melancholy duty to record the death of the excellent Maungakiekie Chief of Ngatinaunau, a tribe residing at Manaia, near Coromandel Harbour. This aged warrior was much respected- by his own countrymen, not on account of his great feats in war, but on account of his peaceable disposition and retiring habits. It is said that he was very successful in preventing feuds among the tribes, aud equally clever in establishing peaceful relations between contending parties. We hope that his bereaved relatives will copy his good example ing that it is written "blessed are the peace 3 makers."
