THE MAORI MESSENGER. Auckland, December 1,1853.

We place before our readers an interesting account of the Otaki Schools, copied from one of the newspapers of Wellington. We understand that large endowments in land have been given by the natives in various districts in furtherance of that most desirable scheme—Education. We were not prepared to hear of such liberality on the part of our .Maori friends, but the developeinenl of their real character is hardly yet Known to those most intimately acquainted with them. We have told the tribes many a time, that it is a cause of much grief when we are obliged to record their evil works; in like manlier we cannot hut feel proud when we are called to place on record their good deeds ; we therefore most heartily congratulate the native people in refreuce to their cooperation with the Covernmeiit for the establishment of Schools through the length and breadth of the land.
