RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR SCHOOLS IN CONNECTION WITH THE NORTHERN DIVISION OF THE EDUCATIONAL BOARD.

General Principle. According to the provisions of the Governor's letter all schools which receive any portion of the government grant, shall be conducted upon the principles of n religions education, industrial training, and instruction in the English language'. Ckntiui. Schools. I .No School shall he deemed a Central School within the meaning of the Governor's letter, which shall nofhave heen designated for that purpose by the Hoard. 2. No School shall he designated as a Central School unless persons of the Native race be hoarded therein, and (rained lo he teachers of Primary Schools. .■>. The following have heen already designated as Central Schools : St. Stephen's, Taurnrua. Kohanga, (the Rev. It. Maunsell's.) Tukiipoto, (the Itev. 11. V. Ashwell's.) Tnranga, (the Venerable Archdeacon "William Williams'.) PnuiAiiv Schools. 1. No School shall he deemed a Primary School within the meaning of the Governor's letter which shall not have been designated for that purpose by the Hoard. 2. Kvery Primary School shall he regarded as subordinate lo some Central School, or lo (hi! Kduralioual Hoard of this Division, and it shall be the gcie'rat rule that the most promising candidates from the Primary Schools shall Inve the option afforded them of being received into the Central Schools of this Jlislricl. n. It is not considered essential to a Primary School that the children shall be hoarded therein. Hr.r.rnTio.Ns ion Admission 1. 'I he primary object in all Schools in connection with the Hoard must be the education of the Native race of New Zealand. 2. No person can he certified as a teacher in llie lirst class, unless he shall produce a satisfactory rccommendalion from Ihe Manager of some Central School, in which he shall have heen under training. •S. Persons accepted as Probationers will be placed under the charge, of the Manager of such Central Institution as the Hoard may direct. 0. A sum not exceeding (I'll)} per annum will be p-id lo ihe Manager of each Central Institution towards the maintenance of every such Probationer so placed under his charge. 111. A list will he kept by Ihe Secretary of all persons accredited by the Hoard, whether as teachers or Probationers, and all questions relating lo their location and employment will be decided at the annual meeting of the Hoard. j 2.
