Impounding Ordinance.

Session 8. No. 6—Empowers the owners of feuced lands or their agents, to impound cattle found trespassing UNKNOWN in the nearest public pound, specifying in writing to the poundkeeper the number and kinds of cattle impounded, the place wl.ere they trespassed, the amount of damage claimed for trespass, and name of the owner of cattle (if known). It further empowers the owner of such land to detain cattle, found trespassing, in any convenient place in his own land, provided that lie knows the owner of the cattle, and shall, within 24hours, give orsend to such owner the like notice that is required to be sent to the poundkeeper. Cattle are to be maintained while in custody by persons so detaining them, the cost of food to be charged to the owner at the same rate as is charged by poundkeepcr ; but thty are not to be detained longer than 72 hours, at the expiration of which, if cattle are not released, and lawful chaiges paid, they are to be driven to nearest public pound. No charge can be made for damage done by cattle while in custody. Any person impounding cattle in any other place than a public pound or as provided above, will be liable to a penelty not exceeding £lO.
