Hamilton.

Oil this aide of the plain we have had oue of the finest Springs experienced for many years., I never saw such abundance of grass, and all the crops are looking remarkably well; also all stock. There bas been very little mortality amongat the lambs, and our farmers have had very high percentages this year. Indeed, I think it is quite a record. It was getting a bit dry last week, but_we bad a fine rain during tfce past two days. It will deter abear-

iog a bit, but will do more good other ways. All things considered, it should be a very profitable year for'farmers. There were buried in Hamilton cemetery last Tuesday the remains of the late Mrs Thomas Foster. Through the Bhort notice, I'm sorry to say there were not so many at the funeral as I expected. She was one of ihe very early settlers of tke plain, and fe. woman very much respected. Mrs Foster' had a very adventurous life. She came out to the Victorian Goldfields and accompanied her husband all over them. -When the rush broke out here, she and her husband came over in the early sixties. They stopped for a short timfe in the Sowburn, then shifted to Hamilton, where they remained, settling' down on the Pigburn Creek. She was a lady much respected by everyone, and I don't think she had as enemy in her life. Sije had a very genial and kindly disposition. The Rev. Mr Drake con-

ducted the service at the grave. Sh was laid beside her husband "(the lar Mr Thomas Foster) and Mr Joseph She passad away at the ripe old age of 88. She was a native of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Eng'and, and had do family nor relations in the country. Pukepouri, 19,11,17. -
