Mount Ida Chronicle FRIDAY, NOV. 2, 1917.

Mr A. B. Mann, county chairman, announced bis intention of retiring from the council, but as the result of a numerously-signed petition of the ratepayers, in the Riding of Kyeburn, he has decided to seek re-elec-tion. The petitioners, as well as expressing appreciation of his services, pointed out that there were likely to be other changes in the personnel of the council, and it was not advisable to have too many new members at once. The casualty lists published since last issue are heavy and include the name of:—Sergeant P. F. O'Malley, Naseby, wounded; Private John G. Crutchley, Kyeburn, and James S. Mulholland, Ranfurljr, killed; and the following are wounded:—P. M'Knight, Oturehua; Louis Albert Pearce, Waipiata; Walter Jas. Blackler (husband of Mrs Blackler, Naseby); Cecil Davis (a son of Mr H. P.J. Davis), Nasaby; Jas. H. Dillon, 3t. Bathans; D. Archer, Naseby; James Albert Arthur, Hyde, and Joseph, Beck, Oturehua. Yesterday news was received by their frieDds that Robert Paisley was killed on the 13th ult., and Scobie Dawson and John Brown (son of Mr and Mrs Colin Brown) were wounded; W. Kerr, Gimmerburn, D. Cathro, Kokonga. J. A. Ramsay, Hyde, Aleck M'Laren, formerly of Naseby, are also" among the killed, and F. J. Graham, Waipiata, and Lance-Corporal Alfred Excell, St. Bathans, were wounded. Mr E. Morgan wishes us to make it clear that he is a candidate for Lauder ; and not St. Bathans Ridjng. He points ! out that the error in last advertisement I was ours. !

Private Thomas Jopson, Oturehua, who is home on sick leave, paid this town a visit last week. He is suffering from shell shock, but is looking well and seems to have borne cheerfully the trying experiences of modern warfare.

The county rolls are now procurable, the work of printing them having been completed. So far we have not heard of a probable election for aDyof the different ridings. Mr T. A. Lowis annouLces in this issue his candidature for Idaburn Riding, and Mr N. Nicolson that he will be a candidate for a seat on the Hospital Board.

Tenders are, invited for a painting contract at the hospital.—See advt.

For sale, a cottage in Naseby district.
