MANIOTOTO A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Programme Committee was held at Ranfurly last Friday afternoon. Present Messrs Cromb (chair), Reid, W. Davis, Bleach,' Murray. J. O'Neill, Little, J.' Nicolson and Duncan. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs P. M. Law and W. Crawford. Minutes. The secretary read the minutes, which were confirmed on the motion of -Messrs Bleach and Duncan. Correspondence. The correip' n- enee included a receipt for the LSO invesf-d in War Loan certificates. The Railway Department wrote that no special traips or tickets would be available for th«> show, but they would put en extra car accommodation up to the hauling capacity of one engine. Mr A. Trotter wrote that he and Mr Doehertv requested an alteration in the' flight jumping—say, to four t urdles? ranged around the ring, two of which be brush, about 3ft 9in- high. They wou.'d guarantee six entries if this were done, and the rules altered so as to give points for Btyle of jumping. Mr H. W. Glendining wrote:—

In the Mt. Ida Chronicle of last week 1 re&O an account of your annual meeting and in it I n«>ficed at the end of the Evecutivtr "Li'e Member, R. W. Glei di nii;c." M*y I ask yiur committee to acrept from me the en closed War Loan Certificate for £lO which matures on the 4ih September, 1921. Your Committee are at liberty to make what use they like of this donation but one way that struck me was this. It might keep up the interest in the Annual Show and help to bring in entries if it were given for the most points gained by any one exhibitor at the next five shows, 1917 1918, 1919, 1920 and 1921. Before the latter date the Certificate will have become negotiable. You wili notice it is of last year's loan. Mr Bleach moved—That the inward correspondence be received and the outward approved, .and that consideration of Mr GUndinning's letter be left over till they were going through the programme.—Seconded by Mr Davis and carrieJ.

The Programme.

The programme of last year was adopted with the following alterations :

On the motion of Messrs O'Neill and Nicolson, the prizes in the thoroughbred classes were cut down to one half. Mr Daviß moved; and Mr Reid seconded —That the class for best lady rider be cut out.—Only two voting for it, the motion was lost. T On the motion of Messrs Bleacb and J. O'Neill, class 58—pair of boggy horses was deleted.

Over the alteration of the hurdle jumping class, there was a good deal of discussion, and eventually Mr Bleach moved, Mr Davis seconded, and it was carried, the class read—Prize for horse which best clears several flights of ! hurdles ranged round the ring,- etc.; time limit.

If leas than four entries ooly 50 per cent of the money is to be given. The weight for the high jump also came in for a great deal of criticism, and after sevfcral proposals, on the motion of Messrs Beattie and Davis a compromise was arranged, fixing list as the minimum.

Mr D. Duncan pointed out that some riders spurred their horaea too severely in the polo, and it was resolved (motion of Msssrs Dbvjs and Nicolson) to prohibit the use of spurs. Moved by Mr Murray, seconded by Mr O'Neill, and carried—'That the prize for the stepping be reduced to half a guinea. Mr Bleach moved—That Mr Glendenning's handsome donation be thankfully received by this committee, and that bis wishes be given effect to.— Seconded by Mr Davis and carried. On the motion of the same gentlemen it was count the points for this prize in the same way as the points for the aggregate prize are counted. Before this decision was arrived at, a good deal of difference of opinion existed, some thinking that a man was entitled to his full numher of points whether he had opposition or not, and others holding that this gave an undue advantage to the the man exhibiting poor stock. Eventually Mr Nicolson produced the rules of the Otago Association, which settled the discussion.

It was decided to delete the section for Cheviot sheep altogether." Mr Little moved, Mr Nicolson seconded, and it was carried —That class 107 be for three fat lambs, ewes or wethers, suitable for.freezing. Moved by Mr Nicolson, seconded by Mr Murray and carried That the motor cars of non-members be charged 2s 6d for admission to the ground.

Suitable judges were suggested, and the selection was left to the chairman and secretary.
