The monthly meeting of the Board was held on Wednesday evening, 3rd inst. Present Messrs C. J. trider (chairman), Kinney, Davis, Luwis, Mann and A. Marslin. An apology was received from Mr M'Atamney for non-attendance on account of illness. After the reading and confirmation of the minutes of last meeting, and the reading and approval of the outward correspondence, the following, among other business, was transacted:— f The Inspector-general's annual report of the Public Health and Hospitals and Charitable Aid, which was taken as satisfactory in view of the altered circumstances of the times. Replying to a letter that the Health Inspector should make at least quarterly visits to the district, the Inspector-general replied that he was communicating with Health Department in Dunedin on the matter!. Respecting thf appointment of matron, caused by the resignation of Miss Kelly, who was desirous of -employment in the North Island, through prolonged illness in her family, Miss M'Lean, the Assistant Inspector, was prepared to recommend her to fill the vacancy in Taumaranui Hospital; and that Miss Farrow, a qualified nurse residing at Gore, could take her place at Naseby. To deal with the question at this meeting, would be too late, and as several of the Hospital Boards in the Dominion were advertising for capable matrons, and the war having absorbed all tbat could be spared, the chairman thought it advisable to agree to the opportunity of accepting the services of Miss Farrow who, the Board would see from her'application, was a thoroughly qualified medical and maternity nurae with Home and Dominion experiences. The Hon. the Minister of Hospitals had approved of. Miss Farrow's appointment. On the motion of Mr Kinney, seconded by Mr Mann, thq Board approved of the action of the chairman and clerk. The Inspector-general forwarded copies of extracts from the New Zealand Gazette containing Orders-in-Council respecting the r« presentation on Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards.—Received, and the clerk requested to attend to the matter. The medical attendant notified a case of phthisiß at W.aipiata. The chairman stated that the usual' steps for disinfection had been taken. —Received The Hospital Committee's report was read and adopted.
