We clip the following paragraph from the Tuapeka Times, as-we also reprinted the par. referred to:— In oar last issue we reprinted a paragraph from the Free Press in which it was stated that Mr Acheson, S.M., had fined a man named Clapperton, of Owaka, £2O for selling 100 cartridges without the necessary permit, and this after the Magistrate bad said he did not think the defendant had done so with intent to do wrong. This was followed by the question "If the Magistrate had thought otherwise we wonder what the penalty would have been?" We have the very best authority for stating that the facts set out in the paragraph had no foundation; that the fine instead of being £2O was merely the nominal one of 20».
