A public meeting of farmers at Waitabuna held recently decided to form a branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. The chairman, speaking on the benefit to farmers of the union, said:—The Farmers' Union had been in existence for nearly 20 years now, and had succeeded in securing many advantages for them and the removal of many impositions which they had previously suffered under and the farmers now recognised it as the organisation which looked after their interests both collectively and individually. Among many of the advantages it bad secured to the farmers was the reduction of insurance preniumß which had been accomplished by the establishment of their Mutual Fire Insurance scheme. Other benefits secured were too numerous to detail, but at the present moment they were engaged on a scheme for the manufacture of fertilisers which would be sold to the farmers at about half the price at present being paid to agents. This was a North Island scheme, but its benefits would extend over the whole Dominion. Ss influential had the organisation become that it was now recognised by the Government as, the mouth-piece of the farmers' interests and was looked upon as an advisory board in connection with much of the Government's legislation where the farmers' interests were affected.

In accordance with requests received Cabinet has decided that Sunday, October 7tb, shall be set apart as a day for National Prayer in connection with the men The churches are being asked to arrange accordingly, and Mayors in all eitie3 and boroughs are being asked for a united service in the afternoon.
