Naseby y Ranfurly. The following teams met at Naseby on Saturday:— Naseby.— Full-back, J. Buchanan; three-quarters, J. Norrie, M'K. Marshall (captain), W. T. Drake: five'-eighths, J. Hore, J. I. Fraser'; half; J. Peterson; forwards, W. D. Hore, J. Marslin, G. D. Falconer, Ben Marslin, J. Fennessy, A. Henderson, Henry Moore ; 'wing, v Dave Marshall. RaDfurly.—Fullback, M. Hanrahan ; three-quarters, W. Johnston, G. Shaw, A. Forrester; .five-eighths, T. Forrester, W. Beattie; half, W. Crawford (captain) ; forwards J. Kerr, J. O'Neill, 'W. Bandy, H. Ensor, J. Slater, P. Dougherty, C. Dougherty, D. Chisholm. The football match between the above club 3 attracted a good deal of attention, and was witnessed by a large crowd of spectators. During the afternoon there was quite a procession/ of motor cars, buggies and bicycles coming up along the Ranfurly road. The visitors had the youngest and most likely looking team, bat the older players of the borne .team proved far superior in every department of the game and registered a victory by 20 to nil. A penalty goal was first scored by M'K. Marshall, J. Hore scored a try, which was converted by the former, a passing rush enabled Norrie to score, a scramble on the line was taken advantage of by Falconer to add another try, soon after D. Marshall increased the score to 17, and J. Maralin added the final score. The general opinion at the outset was that youth woul J win on staying power, but the reverse proved the case, the home team (which was composed ■principally of men about 40) finished up fresh, while their opponents "went to .pieces" towards the end of the game. K.Marshall proved to be the best man on the ground, while John Hore played with surprising dash and Falconer showed good form' after a 15 or 18 years' retirement from the field. The game did not givo the backs much opportunity, but nil the forwards did well. Among the older players of Ranfurly Hanrahan did some good work as did A. Forrester, and a wing three quarter. In the forwards P. Dougherty and Chisholm put in hard and useful work. The game was controlled by Mr W. C. Davis, and Messrs D. Duncan and L.
Francis acted as line umpires. - !. Perhaps "Captain Crawford is to blame for losing the game through not playing the team he first selected.
