At the "Waste lands Board,petitions were received from Tuapeka pnd Southland with respect to dealing with public lands, po as to make them available for settlement. In respect to both petitions, it was resolved that members inspect the land referred to prior to any further action being taken. H. S. and E. A. Chapman applied to purchase out station on run 222, previously applied for. ——'- ■» . PARLIAMENTARY. Yesterdiy in Parliament w.is mainly devoted to a mild criticism of the Native policy by Mr. Ormond, -Who was highly complimentary to Mr. Sheehan. '1 he Canterbury rtitlholders are very frightened about the extension tenure if the present Lands Bill if dropped* and another one introduced, which is not improbable. Mr. Fisher to day let drop some remarks causing an impression *hat it is by no means certain that the Government will yet accept the ten years' extension. A despatch lias been received, granting the title of " Honorable" for life to ex-Judges G-resson and Chapman. Mr. J. N. Wilson has been *worn in in the Council. Mr. Larnach is much better. (From our 'Wellington correspondent.) ' The session cannot close this week. The Opposition appear to up all hopes, and ex-Ministers are packing up in order to vacate the Ministerial residences. The Colonial Treasurer is still unable to resume his seat. The rumors of his immediate resignation are unfou'nded.Grave fears were enter tain ed by the Opposition pesiei'day that the " baby" would have asserted claims for recognition, but fortunately motions for roads and bridges intruded, and the bnptism had to be again postponed, to the intense satisfaction of its adopted parent.
