CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS.

A BiLTi has been introduced into the General Assembly for the management of Charitable Institutions constituted under the Act; any Hospital for the relief, treatment, and cure of disease, and any institution for the relief of iigmi and infirm persons; and any school in which industrial training is provided, and in wliii-h children are lodged, clothed, ,iml fed, as well as taught. All institutions supported by not less than fifty annual subscribers of £1 each ,can he-incorporated, tho - subscribers to be styled contributors,'and to be entitled to vote for the appointment of the nine Managers, who are to include in number, • and appoint, a President, a Vice-President, and a Treasurer. All such institutions are to be inspected at least once anuually by a Government Inspector. It is proposed'to subsidise all subscriptions, receipts and donations, £1 for £l, out of the Consolidated' Fund. To this there is to be a limitation, and it is a 'very import.tsnt one to upcountry districts-. : " The maximum sum to be paid from the Consolidated Fund towards the.support of any such insitu tions shall not exceed a payment at the rate of per week for-each of tho'inmates of institutions, and at the: rate, of! ——per week for each person in receipt of ,out' door relief from 'such institution:".. The.blanks have yet to be filled in. ..It is,-however j.'obvious..that if a city rate of maintenance .of hospital patients is struck the snbsidyto isuch hospitals! as exist., with so much benefit/upon the Goid- : fields, will be less than ss. in the £t. There-; mainder pf the Bill supplies machinery for thej management of. such institutions as the In--dustrial School and-Benevolent lustitution. 1
