TELEGRAMS.

(From our own correspondent.) Dunedin, Thursday Afternoon,

The. Colonial Bank Directors "have resolved to recommend the proprietors at the general meeting on the 25th July to the payment of a dividend at- the rate of six per cent, for the past half year.

The Waste Lands Board referred the matter of the application from settlers at Hyde for 4000 seres from t)eap Deel Station and 2000 oa Bun No. 205, Strathtaieri, to Messrs. K. Clarke and J. G-reen, who are to vijit the latad and report. Mr. Btrode's resolution urges the Government that in"any measure relating to tha land laws of Otago another system be introduced allowing of pastoral farms, from 500 acres to 2000 acres, being' taken up on deferred payments?, or on such other easy conditions as may be considered advisable, and that, in this Board' 3 opinion, this is absolutely essential for the proper settlement of the country, the system of pastoral lands being the only one thoroughly practicable over a large proport ion of the remaining unsold land in.Otago. The Board's rerolution ■re throwing open 5000 acre* on Run 119 was tantamount to declining it at present-, but if no fresh legislation tabes place this session they will probably consider it favorably. The ' Times' says the Address in Reply will be moved by Mr. Sutton and seconded by Mr. Beetham. Captain Morris has been appointed one of the Government whips. Auckland's programme is said to be—lst. Handing over all adminiotrative functions to Road Boards, and the abolishment or hanging up of County Councils ; and secondly, making the Land Fund Colonial revenue, or, failing this latter, insular separation at all hazards. Sir George Grey bow professes his readiness, while retaining the leadership of the Auckland section, to serve under any other general leader who would be better able to unite parties, and command a larger following than himself. Mr. Montgomery is mentioned as the-probable leader. Sir George intends to speak briefly on the Address in Reply, but no general debate is likely. Sir George Grey in one House and Colonel Whitmoro in the other will immediately give notice for Committees to enquire into the Wilson-Rogan case and the commission of enquiry therein. The Government will temporise about tho Canterbury run question, and endeavor to avoid coming to a decision this session. The contest for tho City Mayoralty between Messrs. Isaac, Woodland, and Leary is going to be very close. Majo~ Steward has been reelected for Oaiaara, and Mr. Haynes for Palmerston.

There is an immense demand here for Union insurance shares.

A public meeting at G-rabamstown voted against the abolition of gold duty, but supported a resolution that a miners' right should bo reduced to ss.
