The annual meeting of this body was held in the schoolroom on June 23rd, for tho purpose of hearing the report of the retiring Committeee, and electing a fresh one. Paragraph No. I.—Your Committee -wrote to the different Miners' .Associations throughout the Province, asking their opinion relative to the desirability of petitioning the House of Eep"esentalives to legalise the pollution of rivers by gold-mining. Having done so, your Commit too were advised to prepare a petition for the district, and forward it to tbc ■Government, through the representatives of the distiiet. This they did, and received a reply, notifyijg the intension of the Government to bring forward a bill dealing "with the pollution of rivers, during the ensuing session. Paragraph 2<o. 5. —Your Committee also -wrote to the representatives of the district, and Mr. de Lautour, asking their advice relative to having the Maere'whenua River proclaimed under '• The Eiver Pollution Act" of 1875; to -which Mr. do Lautour replied, recommending that no steps be taken in the matter,- which recommendation your Committee adopted. The meeting next proceeded to the election, of Committee, when the following members were T. Smithj H. M'Ooll, J.Neale, H.Howe, S.Bulky. E. Slorach, John Botling, Jas. M'Quade, and Jas. Botting, the office-bearers being —Chairman, Mr. Joseph Neale ; Secretary, Mr. John Botting; Treasurer, Mr. Robert Slorach.
