NOTES OF A TOUR THROUGH NEW ZEALAND BY A GERMAN LADY.

THE PEESCK OF GOiCICDaiTEES. ' As it was rather late in the year for an excursion by coach to Queenstovrn. in the celebrated Lake district, I had to abandon that reluctantly; but, in order to see something of the interior of Otago, L took a ticket by coach to Oamaru, a seaport town on the East Coast. A s there are two coach offices, it is necessary to know that Cobb's (Mr. Chaplin) are the best coaches, driven by the most skilful drivers. Having seen in s ßradshaw's Gruide' that the prince of coachmen, the celebrated Mr. Devine, "whose skill in handling the reins is so great it must be seen before it can be thoroughly appreciated, was a driver on that line of coaches, I went to the booking-office to ascertain on what days he was to drive. Unfortunately it happened that I could not make it convenient to start for Oamaru on one of Ned's days, but I saw the hero driving the coach in with sis horses, and, had a conversation with him, I found him to be a gentle-mannered, kind, shrewd person withal; one that leads a hard lite, and has a perpetual good humor and inexhaustible fund of kindness towards all he comes in contact with. Everybody has a good word to say for lied, who. is,a general favorite, and it is very pleasant to meet such people in any position in life.
