Mr. w abdeit Bkoad's duties hare been extended. He has been appointed Magistrate and Warden for the Matakitaki and Hampden districts, with jurisdiction up to £IOO, and will hold courts there in addition to dutiea at Westport, Charleston, and the Lyell.

Tkje Wardens* Conference at "Wellington closed on Saturday. Among other matters of minor import it has heea decided to grant the Wardens an allowance of £IBO per annum each for forage and travelling expenses. The Colonial Government have referred al* the Hospital accounts to the County Council It appears that the Hospital Committee had forwarded the accounts to the Colonial Government, presumably under the impression that tha latter would make provision for their settlement. Under the Counties Act the- responsibility lies with* the Council, although there was ground for the supposition that the Colonial Government would provide for the payment until the 30th of June of this year.—'lnangahua Times.'
