ELECTION OF MAYOR.

The nomination for Mayor took place yes terday at the Town Hall, Naseby. Mr. IT. Brookes presided as Returning Officer. The gentlemen who felt it their duty to prosecute Mr. L. W. Bnsch, the necessity of ejecting him from office being so great, did not find it convenient to attend and inform the ers of their objections, or of the enormities of which Ma Busch has been guilty. Mr. li. W. Busch, nominated by Mr. E." Strong, and seconded by Mr. G-. Collett, wus declared elected. Mr. Busch, being called on, said: Gentlemen, —I stand before you in a peculiar: position. As you are aware, a minority in the Council, unable to get their own way, re« venged themselves by persecuting me by forms of law one of their number was trained in. As I believe, in entire violation of thff privileges of the Council, the Resident Magistrate gave a decision adverse to me. I submitted, rather than plunge the Council into litigation, and consented that the office of Mayor Bhould be declared vacant. 1 know that the work I have done for the town' is appreciated by the ratepayers, and I have' to ask them, in again returning me, to compel their representatives to their duty. For the past six months everything that ought to have been doue has been left undone, owing to the factions spirit of the minority. For my part, I now re-enter office determined to forget the persecution to which I have been subjected, and to devote my energies to tho welfare of the ratepayers, as I have done in the past,
