STATUTORY EDUCATIONAL MEETING, NASEBY.
The statutory educational meeting at Naseby on Monday night last did not provoke any violent excitement in the town. The Secretary to the Committee, Mr. U. E. Field, energetically rang the school bell at 7.3f> : Our reporter appeared. At the interval of half alii hour four Committeemen represented the public meeting. In another half hour volunteers to make a meeting, were pressed from the Good Templars' Lodge, and from the street. The report was- then read by Mr. Field.— REPORT OP THE MOtTNT IDA DISTRICT SCHOOL COMMITTEE FOR THE YEAR ENDING 1876. Our term of office having expired, and this evening being that on .which the election of a Committee of Management for this school is appointed to take place for .the current year, we hereby place in your hands onr resignations as.members of the Committee for the past year.We were, fortunate enough, during oilr term of office, to obtain a grant of £2O from the Education Board for the repairs of the sphool building and the - sanitary improve-, .ment 'of the grounds attached to the school, |Which;sum. has, within a small balance, been appropriated for the purpose for which it jwas granted. ' y KVe are glad to be able to report, in resign - ing our office, that the monetary affairs Of the school are in a Satisfactory condition, inasmuch as there are no outstanding liabilities against the retiring Committee, but, on the contrary, a small balance is standing to. their credit. 1: Wishing that the efforts of our successors' in this great cause may, be attended .with every Success, we are, etc. . Mr. Wilson, as Chairman of the Committee, then resigned on' behalf of the Committee. ■ The Committee were thanked , by resolution for their services, and the re-, port was adopted. It was explained to the meeting that, in consequence of changes in the educa- ' tional yeai 4 , the usual' figures, showing I average attendance and amount of fees j received, were not yet prepared. , The Chairman was, however, in a position to state that the attendance was oh tlie increase. The number of members of Committee for the year was fixed at nine, and the following nominations received: — Messrs. Glenn, Gillespie, Field, Wilson, Rev. J. Hobbs, Messrs. de Lautour, Anderson, Gilmore, Pearson, and Wade. A 3how of hands was taken, resulting in a tie between Messrs. Field and Wade. The presiding Chairman, Mr; H. Wilson, said, to relieve Mr. Field and to introduce new blood, he would give his casting vote for Mr. Wade. Mr. Field disputed the power: of the Chairman to give a casting vote, j The Chairman said he had not exercised his vote, and therefore felt justified in deciding as he had done. In Committee Mr. H. WilsOn was again appointed Chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr. de Lautour Honorary Secretary.
