HYDE.

(From our own correspondent.) A previous comrnunfeation contained an allusion to the Hyde Public Library, and the necessity existing for its reconstruction. I am glad to tell that it is in a fair way to go.a-head again, and become a solace, and a source of instruction and amusement to those whose sole and only comfort is very frequently derived from books. A new committee, consisting of Mr. M'Auley, Chairman, Mr. Matheson, Secretary, Mr. M'Namara, Librarian, and Messrs. Laughton, Laverty, M'Kay, and others has been formed. They have written to H. "W. .Robinson, ii'sq., requesting him to favor them with a lecture in aid of the funds of the institution, and he in reply has kindly consented to place his services in that respect at their disposal. Mr. Uobinson has appointed to give a lecture on the evening of the 13th inst — the subject, " Mining Popularly Considered." It is entirely a new one, the matter is such as the learned and humorous lecturer has complete mastery of, so I do not doubt—when it is considered how ably Mr. .Robinson is accustomed to deal with anything literary he takes in hand but that a pleasant evening and a fund of entertainment is in store for us. The lecture will be held in the School House, at 7.30. sharp. The non-proclamation and sale of the long since surveyed defevred payment block is causing much dissatisfaction, and the Provincial Government, as well as the General, is considerably " cussed " in connection therewith. It is time some sweeping changes took place, and a better administration adopted, for really tho treatment up-country districts get i 3 most unjust and censurable. The weather has been very boisterous lately, and last Tuesday we had a heavy snow storm. Such weather, however, is beneficial alike now to mining and farming, so we must not complain in this respect—both plough and hose being busily, and I hope profitably, employed.
