Dunedin, Friday, 8 p.m. Conlls and Culling have been served .-with a writ for'£soo damages by liirch for alleged libel, contained in an article printed 'and published-by them in a recent issue of the ' Liberator.' This is in addition to the writ served on Hooper, the writer of the article. Arrived—the barque Glencoe, from Hobarton, after a passage of thirty-one days. Great fears were entertained for her safety. The recent hal masque has formed the subject of inquiry at the Police Court to-dsy. Wilson, who got up the affair, was charged with allowing prostitutes- to meet and remain in the hall where refreshments were sold. A fine of £2O was imposed. ■ ♦ . OAffItARTT. A frightful accident occurred this morning at Meek's flour mill. John M 'Murtrie was caught in the machinery, and whirled round—the consequence being that one leg was torn off his body ; oue arm B mashed in live places, and sevei-al of hia ribs broken. Though frightfully mutilated lie is still alive, but no hopes are entertained of his surviving. He is a sober, industrious man, with a wife and eight children. .» The first passenger train from Oamaru to Hampden passed over the line to-day.
