MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

Tho ordinary meeting of the Council was held on the 23rd March, 1876. Present—his Worship the Mayor, Cra. Craig, Brookes, and Greer. The minutes of the last meeting were road and confirmed. BEPOBTB. Tho Inspector of Nuisances reported, amongst othor things—That ho had made many visits of inspection recently to all the Piggeries within tho boundaries of tho Municipality, and found a number of them, situated in the central part of the town, whioh aro in a very, filthy and,.of-

fensive condition, and that the same have been in that state for a considerable time —namely, Walter Inder, Broom-street; Geo. Collett, Broom-street; and E. T. George, Tay-street. He therefore would not recommend a renewal of licenses to the abovementioned persons. The pigstye kept by E. T. George adjoins the footpath in Tay-stroet, and about 20yards distant from Earn-street —in fact the most public part in the town, and near the main channel, which receives the discharge from the said piggery in Tay-street. Earn, and Leven- streets are continually in a mess of glaie and stagnant water. The Inspector begs further to state that unless tho piggeries referred to are discontinued it will be impossible to keep the Municipality inoffensive and clear of disease. PIGSTYES. The following application for permission to keep pigstyes were read—Messrs. Francis, Bull, George, Horswell, Collett, and Inder. Hesolved —" That the Inspector of Nuisances report be adopted, and that no pigstyes be allowed to be kept between Tay and Broom-streets." DOGS AND GOATS. The report of the Finance Committee was read and adopted, on the motion of Cr. Greer, which recommended —" That the Inspector of Nuisances be allowed ten per cent for all dogs and goats registered at the Town Clerk's Office, commencing! Ist. April, 1876, and that the Inspector be directed to take proceedings against the owners of all unregistered dogs and goats within the Municipality after the above date."
