LARRIKINISM.

(To the Editor of the Mount Ida Chronicle.) Sib, —The writer of "Notes from St. Bathans " is likely to obtain for our wellconducted community an unenviable notoriety. Ido not agree with those who say that his recent remarks on the conduct of a single drunken man, and his still more recent remarks on what he calls "larikinism," are darling productions. I would rather call them vicious productions, emanating from private spleen entertained either by the writer or some of his friends. What meaning does he attach to tho " larrikimsm," and how has " larrikinism " shown itself in St. Bathans ? Calling " Quartz " and " Pipeclay " leaders |of tho epidemic would lead your readers to suppose that they (the " larrikins ") had a considerable following here. Never was there a more groundless supposition. "Quartz" and "Pipeclay" are known hero as two youths who some years ago gave considerable trouble to their schoolmasters. They are now young men ; they are not faultless, but 1 think they cannot be truthfully called " larrikins." 13e as sured, Mr. Editor, if " larrikinism" were to show itself in St. Bathans the wellknown vigilance of the constable in charge, and tho admittedly good conduct of residents generally would soon put an extinguisher upon it.—l am, &c., (Signed) Inamokato Justici.®.
