Defendant, being one of the committee, who, as plaintiff alleged, had authorised him to do thd work. Plaintiff said he had been -quite willing that the amount of his claim should bo credited' to him ai a subscription, and his grievance appeared to be that it had not been properly acknowledged as such: Mr. Mulvej explained that Hi\ McCaffrey's contribution of labor had been acknowledged in the same manner as other similar contributions. Case dismissed. A slaughtering license was granted to Messrs. Keenan and Morgan. A billiard license was granted to Thomas Turner, Blackstone Hill;

Dalgety for agricultural lease, which had been called on for hearing at last Court, was further considered. K jr. Allen appeared for the applicant, and Mr. Ewin;; on behalf of the Mining Association. Mr. R. Johnstone was also present to watch tho interests of the Government head race. Mr. Allen said that since last Court he had gone over the ground again, and found that the area he required could be surveyed on on* side of Clucas' Creek, which, he presumed, would obviate all objection. After some discussion it was arranged that the Warden should visit the ground. The hearing was further adjourned till February 15. Special Claim.—Mr. John Swing, one of the directors of the Scandinavian Company, attended to take up the deed of grant of a special claim for that company. It appeared that it required the signature of two direc- •• tors, as well as the seal of the company, and the deed, after being executed by Mr. Ewing and sealed, was forwarded : to Dunedin in order that the signature of another director might be obtained. Grants.—R. Brown, residence area; Scandinavian Company, protection; P. Mallou and others, protection; K. Johnstone, protection. Withdrawn. Robert Brown, residence area. Refused.—J. Sweeney, residence area. Cancellation.—Mr. Robert Brown surren? dered for cancellation a certificate for a residence area held by him at Cambrian. This was in consequence of his obtaining a new grant in the same locality.
