ST. BATHANS RACES.

(From our own correspondent.) This meetiug was held on the 6th and 7th inst, and although the prophets foretold that 'twould «ot be a success on account of its appointment from the usual date, viz., December 28t.h and 29th, the result proved the utter fallacy of their prophesies. The gathering on both days was large, the weather moderately fine, and the races, with one or two exceptions, were really well contested. In fact everything conduced to render this one of the most successful meetings ever held here. During the early part of the week a number of those vagrant gentry, who eke out a precarious existence on the gullability of their fellow men, put in an appearance, who, together with jockeyß, horses, and their attendants, furnished all the usual accessories to be found at a race meeting. By the bye, one of the first named fraternity, sometime resident at Naseby, came in for a good drubbing at the hands of an irate shearer, upon whom lie was trying to work the oracle a la " Heathen Chinee," the result being that " Bill Nye went for" that gentleman, and his battered countenance bore ample testimony of " William's" muscular superiority. The stewards desorve credit for the successful carrying out of the meeting, and more especially for their firmness in dealing with the selling race difficulty on the first day, in which the owner of the winning horse, while claiming the stakes, refused to submit the animal for competition. The Committee have, since then, had their action confirmed by a competent authority. The following is the result of the first dixy's racing.
