Header Wood has been re-, turned unopposed for ParnelL Wellington Country polling Brandon (old member), 228; Gillon, 141. Popular opinion at the Thames says that Vogel and Grey will be returned. Vogel has been nominated at the Clutha, and had the show of hands. Alhambra at Hokitika. She brings cablegrams to the 2.5 th December. American Congress opened on.the 6th. Grant recommends the resumption of specie payments in 1875. * Wellington Country election—Punny, 280; Andrews, 155, Pharazyn, 115; Carter, 94. Tairoa has been elected for the Southern Maori District. The Cromwell Company crushed 521 ozs. from 240 tons of stone. The shareholders received £1365 in dividends during the past six weeks. At the criminal session, Darcy, for bestiality, received three years; Langlands, forgery, three years; M'Millan, horse stealing, three years; Cooper, obtaining money under false pretences, five years; Hay, embezzlement, six months; Black, manslaughter at Reidstone, acquitted. • The principal case at the civil sitting will be Highes v. Shand M.P.C., breach of promise—£3000 damages claimed. Eeid and Button are expected to be returned for Jti okitika. Atkinson has been returned for Egmont. ,

The share market is very dull, and prices are declining.
