THE NASEBY CEMETERY AND. ITS DRAINAGE.

(To the Editor of the Mount IdaCheonicle.) Sib, —The disgraceful state in which the grave opened the other day was found when a late interment took place makes this a fitting opportunity to draw the attention of your readers to the manner in which the managers of the Cemetery manage? that public estate. It will be well known to you that some time since they (the, trustees) recognised (after some years of complaint on the subject on the part of those *hose bereavements made them acquainted with the state of the cemetery) the necessity for draining it. Tenders were called for and sent in, and many have been the expressions of surprise that there the matter was allowed to drop. It, however, some time since oozed out that one of the tenderers was a person against whom the Chairman and Secretary had a private grudge, and to cut off his chance of success (I believe his was the only tender sent in, in proper time), they, without consulting their managers, 'or calling a meeting to open and consider the tenders, decided to postpone this very necessary work sine die. I scarcely know how to characterise such conduct —it is at any rate an injustice to the tenderers, an insult to the public, and a proof of the utter unfitness of the managers to fill thaioffice when they allow an opportunity to practice a little private, revenge to sacrifice the public, convenience. Further comment is unnecessary.—l am, sir, --- One of the Texdseebs.
