POLITICAL THERMOMETER RISES.
(To the Editor of the Hotrjpr Ida Ghbonicle.) Sib,—That the rumor that Mr. Hertslet is standing in my interests is an invention of Mr. de Lautour is proved by Mr. Hertslefc denying it. If otherwise let Mr. de Lautour produce bis proof or name his authority. When asked by Mr. de Lautour if I would authenticate the local stating, that I was about to stand I said, " Yes, with the exception of the last paragraph." He laughed, and replied " That is only a hit at Mr. Hertslet," or words to that effect Mr. de Lautour supports the original false statement by another equally false, and finishes his letter with insulting Mr. Mr. de Lautour expects to gain the day by insult and .falsehood he knows very little about men. —I am, &c, E.
