NASEBY ATHENÆUM.

The usual monthly Committee meetings took place in the library of the Athenaeum on Monday, the 25th October. PresentMessrs. W. H. Ash (chair), M'Latchy, Bromiley, Busch (Hon. Treasurer), and Hertslet (Hon. Secretary). The Secbetabt stated that he had written to the Secretary of the Cromwell Athenaeum, requesting to be furnished with a copy of the rules of the institution for the guidance of the Committee, and that no reply had been received. That he had also, in terms of a resolution, applied to Mr. G. P. Eowlatt to return a book, the property of the Athenaeum. JSTo reply had been received. The Secbetabt further reported that the chess and draughts ordered had been supplied, and were n&w at the disposal of members who might desire to use them; and also that the sug-gestion-book had been returned to the library table, as directed. He had also written to Dr. Whitton, requesting that gentleman to be good enough to give-a lecture in aid of the funds of the institution, and that he (Dr. Whitton) had consented to do so. The Secbetabt also intimated that he had, after having consulted with several members of Commitr tee, telegraphed to Mr. Macandrew, ; in Wellington, pointing out the anomalous position in which the Committee was placed; and requesting to know if it would be possible to get an Act incorporating Athenaeums passed this session; to which Mr. Macandrew telegraphed as follows : " Have seen Government re Incorporation of Athenseum's Act. ' No chance of getting such an Act this session. =

Resolved—That the Secretary write to Secretary Education Board, that books to the amount of balance of funds (£6 6s. 3d.) to credit, be forwarded as soon as, possible. .';./ . /, ;. Resolved That the Secretary write again to certain members.; notifying the fact of their subscriptions being in arrear, and requesting payment. The Treasurer submitted his statement for the months of September and October as" follows :—September —.receipts;:£lo •14s. Bd.; expenditure, £5; balance, £5 14s. Bd. October—balance on. hand, £5. 14s. Bd.; Naseby. Minstrels, £s v si?.6d.;' subscription, £1: total available, ;£l2 Is.. 2d.
