COMMENDABLE PHILANTHROPY
(To the Editor of the Mount Ida Chbonicle.) Sib, —Amongst the philanthropic amateurs who so kindly assisted in contributing to the. success of the late concert and readings at St. Bathans, I am much pleased to find that Mr. F. Bunny so creditably performed his part in forwarding the interests of Government schools in direct opposition to the clerical dictum of entire exclusiveness, especially in anything that tends to promote the so called godless system of education. Being a staunch supporter of our present school system, I am glad, for the sako of education, that the gentleman to whom I refer has evidently broken away from the clerical apron strings, and thereby set a highly commendable example of progressive liberalism, which will no doubt be highly appreciated by the enlightened supporters of that " eye-sore " of the ' New Zealand Tablet,' namely, secularism.—l am, &c, Sbcuiabist.
