(To the Editor of the Mottnt Ida CnEONiCLK.')

Where is the Town Council ? and what ,a;-e the C. uneilloi's" for 'the S.'Ulh- Ward doing that they are not, looking after the interests of their constituents, as i-hey promised to do when elected ? And' how is it that they do not sec that the £3OO, granted by the Government to the Corporation for, <tb.e-purpose of forming -the main road, is used for its intended purpose? It is high time that something should be done-to repair the whole length of road down Derwent-street, which comprises the greater part:of the main road, and on which no improvements worth mention have been made since the establishment of the Corporation. In wet weather the water comes down from the sidling, flooding the road; from the Athenaeum to beyond Mr. Sproule's house, and frequently doing damage to freehold property, as there is n-j gutter to carry it off: From Mr. Creighton's residence, to the Ballarat Hotel there is .no.footpath— pedestrians having, to take "the road for it, sometimes wade ankle deep in mud. From the cemetery road -to the limit of the 1 Municipality the road is .bounded, by deep faces, along which it is unsafe to ride or drive, even in the day time—at night it is positively dangerous. It is to be,,hoped that the Council will at once take steps to guard against accidents, arid-put the" whole length of road into a thorough state of. repair; more especially as they have had the money to do this work with in hand for sonic time, and are therefore doubly responsible. I am, &c, A Ratkpayeb.
