MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Council was held at the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening last. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and full Council. The minutes of the previous meetings were read and confirmed."

Gbeer :—The Committee stated that they had carefully, gone through all "the items; and estimated the probable receipts-and liabilities for the financial year, ending the 30th June next, which were likely to be as follows, i.e. : Liabilities, £1660; receipts (including monies iu the bank), £loß7—leaving a deficiency of £573. The amount of money required to complete the Town Hall, including Stephen's contract for £453 10s. 6d., and all the necessary plastering, fittings, and furniture will be' about £I2OO. . The sum required for public works, including salaries, stationery,' &c., was estimated at £460, making the total liabilities £1660. To partly meet the deficiency, the Committee recommend that a. rate of one shilling in the £1 be struck on the new assessment' of £4040,-' which 1 will produce £202, leaving a probable- liability at the end of the year of £37o—; which sum, the Committee thought, could be easily met by arrangement, through the ordinary banking account, in'.antici-. pation of .re venue.
