MINING ASSOCIATION.

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee was held on Wednesday evening last. Pre.sent —Mr. Thos. Jackson (in the chair), Messrs. Woodhill, Moore, Webber, and the Secretary. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and eonfirmed. COBBESPONDENCE.—INWARD : Letter from Warden Stratford thanking the Secretary, on behalf of the Government, for his elaborate report in reference to the deepening of the Channel. SALE OP LAND. The Seceetaey reported that he attended the Land Court on Monday last .. m t«£ support the objection lodged (in accor- * dance with the resolution passed at last meeting) against the sale of a piece of unworked ground situate at the north west of the manse. That, after hearing evidence on both sides, the District Land Officer suggested that an agreement he entered into between the Church Committee and the Association to allow, in the event of the sale, the ground to he worked at any time within tweive months, which was arranged. The. Seceetaey lead a draft agreement, which was approved and adopted, on the motion of Mr. Moobe, seconded by Mr. Woodhilx. Me. Webbee complained of the un- -'. pleasant position in which this case had placed him. He was charged by Mr. Bremner with interested motives, when, in fact, he was simply acting as a member of Committee for the public good. He had no idea of being called as a witness in the matter, and thought that a letter from the Secretary should be sufficient in any case to prevent the sale of land which was considered by the Committee injurious to the mining interest Mr. Moobe was of the same opinion, and said that the miners were disgusted with the whole proceedings. * He objected to the sale of all unworked ground in the town.

The usual vote to Mr. Busch for the use of his rooms terminated the proceedings- . . . -
