MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Council was held at the Council Chambers on. Wednesday evening last. Present—His. Worship the Mayor, Crs. Brookes, and Hjorririg. The minutes of the last ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed.. COBHESPONDENCE.—-INWABIV:

Letter from the Secretary oi the Mining Association, in reply to 3,0~wn Clerk's*, enclosing copy of a resolution passed at last meeting in reference to the' Cricket Groutd Reserve, stating that a reserve of two chains on the southern boundarywould answer all requirements, so far as," mining industry is concerned, and thatthere c;m be no objection to the remainder being vested in the Corporation. as a re* creation reserve, and planted with trees. Letter from the Secretary to' theNasebyTolunteer Fire Brigade, statingthat he was instructed to urge upon the Council the necessity of a lamp with post being erected in front of the enginehouse. This matter was postponed till next meeting, to consider Cr. Craig's notice of motion to remove the lamp from the cemetery road. Letter from JN iece M'JSally,. informing; the Council that he was unable to complete his contract, and praying to be released from further liability; at the sametime stating that he was willing to forfeit all money due to himKEROSENE STOBE. The Committee appointed at last meeting reported that, after careful inquiry*, they had ascertained that the amount of' kerosene required to be stored would be about 300 cases, and that a building 12 x 12, with 7ft. walls would be sufficient for the storage. At present the site recommended for the building is in Tay-street,. at the rear of Gay Tan's premises. Postponed for further consideration. EAILWAT FEOJI PAIMEnSTON TO CLYDE. The Committee submitted a draft memorial, which was'approved, and ordered to be engrossed and forwarded to Mr. deLautour, M.P.C., for presentation. FINANCE. The following accounts were passed for payment: —Wm.. Jacob, on account of' contract, £SO; Morrison and Co., wort I and material, £27 145,; L.-.W. Busch, ' goods supplied to S"aseby YolunteerFire I Brigade, £2 16s. NOTICE OF MOTION. Cr. Cbaio gave notice of motion —"That the lamp and post situate at the end of' tho Cemetery road be removed, and placed opposite the Fire Brigade shed." The Council then adjourned to Tuesday : next, at half-past two p.m., to.receive and consider tenders for work on main roads.
