SOWBURN GOLD.
We have much pleasure in recording the particulars of the value of the parcel of gold forwarded by Mr. Loader, of Sowburn, to Melbourne. The parcel sent was 80'13 ozs. gold ; the weight after melting was 78'27; the sample was then equal to 53'678 ozs. of standard gold, for which value was credited at £3 17s. 10|d. per ounce—the value of parcel being £325 16s. sd. A mint charge of sd. per ounce, and the discount at 7 per cent, for ■ eleven days reduced the returnable value to £323 7s. lid., • delivery in Melbourne. But we still have the New Zealand charges: Duty, £8 ; freight, 10s.; insurance, 165.; stamps, 3s. 6d.; total, £9 9s. 6d. The value in Melbourne of £323 7s. lid. has still to be reduced by the value of the exchange in this case, still further reducing our value to £321 15s. Bd. Deducting now the final New Zealand charges of £9 9s. 6d., the nett result due to Loader at .Naseby is £312 6s. 2d., or £3 17s. B£d. per oz. Mr. Loader accordgains, by sending to Melbourne (reckoning the gold at £3 15s. 6d.) the sum of £8 16s. Bd.
